What can I do to help my child/ teen?

The first step is to have your child or teenager diagnosed by a competent professional who has experience with ADHD. Most major hospitals have a child psychiatry department, which evaluate children and teens with ADHD. Once diagnosed, it is imperative that parents thoroughly inform themselves on the treatment options available to them. The choice varies from pharmaceutical prescriptions to non-invasive therapeutic approaches. If medication is deemed necessary, a qualified physician should regularly monitor and evaluate the impact of the medication on your child. Parents must seriously consider the long-term side effects of any medications prescribed to their children.

Studies have shown that medication alone, if even judged necessary, is not the only avenue to consider in dealing with ADHD challenges. Other treatment providers, such as therapists, ADHD coaches, specialized educators will offer support and strategies tailored to your child’s psychosocial condition.

During the last few years, parent coaching has become a highly rated option for parents in search of greater structure, greater empowerment, and wanting to take their parenting skills to a more sophisticated level. My own personalized professional approach, coupled with the very effective “Nurtured Heart Approach” has contributed immensely to parents` success with their children’s disorders.

The Strengths of ADHD Children

‘Parent and child ADHD coaching’ stresses only the strengths of children with ADHD disorder because the majority of the children with ADHD lack self-esteem, confidence and consider themselves as slow learners. My main goal is to change this negative perspective and behavioral pattern in order for them to regain control and mastery of their destiny and enjoy truly successful lives.

Here are a few of the strengths of ADHD Children :

  1. Very energetic, creative mind
  2. Advanced verbal skills
  3. Visionary: think in terms of the big picture
  4. Excellent long-term memory
  5. Leadership abilities
  6. Above average skills in specialized areas like computers, math, music
  7. High emotional sensitivity.

Through focusing on your child’s positive attributes, he or she will become calmer, more focused and learn to find a place of inner-peace within from where all their deepest wellbeing can emerge.
